If you shower several times a day a humidistat is the most convenient because it senses moisture and runs automatically to remove condensation, as in the Quiet Humidistat CQF100H. A timer-controlled fan is a good middle ground: you switch it on and it continues to clear the air for a set period afterwards, useful if you want guaranteed clearance after a shower. Pull-cord units, like the XF100P, suit cloakrooms or simple fittings where you want manual on/off control. A basic standard switch (XF100S) is the cheapest option but relies entirely on you to switch it off, so it’s less efficient for heavy moisture.

Shower-specific fans are designed for higher humidity and often have more powerful motors or shower-timer features, so they are better at preventing mould in a shower enclosure; examples include the in-line LED shower timer models (LEDSLKTC and LEDSLCFDTCN). A general-use fan can ventilate the whole bathroom effectively if the room is small to medium and showers are infrequent. If the unit will sit close to or inside the shower area you should choose one with the appropriate IP protection and a Zone 1 rating, which only some models on offer provide.

Noise levels on the range fall into two clear bands: quieter models at 21–30 dB and louder ones at 41–50 dB. Look for products labelled Quiet or Silent, such as the CQF100T or CSF100S, if you want minimal background noise in an en-suite. Higher dB models tend to be more powerful or in-line units and are fine for larger bathrooms where you prioritise extraction over whisper-quiet performance.

In-line kits place the motor away from the bathroom, often in a loft, so they are much quieter at the grille and can give stronger airflow for larger or multiple-room runs; the two in-line kits shown also include LED lamps and shower timer control for combined lighting and extraction. Standard 100mm fans like the XF100S or XF100T are compact and simpler to fit directly in the ceiling or wall, making them better for small bathrooms or where loft space isn't available. If noise and airflow over a longer duct run matter to you, an in-line kit is the better choice.

Most of the Manrose range here is 100mm, which is the typical size for small to medium bathrooms and en-suites and will suit family bathrooms up to moderate sizes. If you have a very large bathroom, open-plan wet room or multiple-dwelling extraction requirements, you may need a higher-capacity fan or an in-line unit to cope with the extra volume. a standard 100mm timer fan (XF100T) will work well in a typical family bathroom, while an in-line kit will give better performance for a bigger space.
